Photographed in the garden this afternoon the scented rose “Young Lycidas”. (Click the image to see the larger version).

This rose was planted at the end of last November and is now flourishing. It has a lovely ‘old rose’ perfume !

A David Austin rose, “Young Lycidas” was named to mark the 400th anniversary of the birth of the poet John Milton. “Lycidas” is a famous pastoral elegy written by John Milton to commemorate a friend who died at an early age.
