Pink peonies photographed in the gardens of New Place, Stratford-upon-Avon, this afternoon. (Click the image to see the larger version).
New Place is the site of the former home of William Shakespeare. Regrettably, the house was demolished in 1759 by the owner, Reverend Francis Gastrell, in a fit of pique, following a dispute over local property taxes ! Thankfully the gardens, maintained by Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust, remain to be enjoyed.
