I had the pleasure of seeing Carol Ann Duffy, Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom, open the 60th Stratford-upon-Avon Poetry Festival on 30th June 2013.
Carol Ann read for an hour from a selection of her humorous and serious poetry to a receptive audience in the Queen Elizabeth Hall of Stratford-upon-Avon’s Shakespeare Centre.
Frankly, I’m not a fan of poetry so I was there out of curiosity and didn’t really expect much.
In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. I found our poet laureate warm, with a delightful sense of humour, and she delivered her more light-hearted poems with a wonderful sense of comic timing.
If you ever have the chance to see and hear her – go for it!
